Hi Everyone,

We have plenty of awesome stuff lined up for you this week!

Firstly Ensoft, one of our sponsors, will be having a talk on Wednesday Afternoon at the Department. This is not a CompSoc event, but there will still however be some food! =)

The main event this week will be a LAN Party on Thursday (Note: Thursday not Wednesday). There will be the usual purchase of lots of pizza and refreshments, and we plan on playing until late! It will be epic!

We will also not only have the main Learn to Code event this week, but also the joint Oxford Entrepreneurs and CompSoc Learn to Code class! So if you are interested in extending any HTML and CSS Skills you have, here is the place to do it! =)

Our geek night this week also has a couple of guest CTOs of companies that have been accelerated by Entrepreneur First attending. They'll be there for you to ask questions about entrepreneurship and what to do after uni!

We hope to see you at many of our events this week!!! =)

All the details:

Ensoft Technical Presentation

Date: Wednesday Week 7 - 27 November 2013 Time: 01:00 PM  Facebook EventPlace: Lecture Theatre A - Dept. of Computer ScienceTags: Ensoft External Sponsor Event Talk

One of our sponsors Ensoft will be holding a talk in the department:

How to survive nuclear attacks, the NSA, and major brain surgery: the Internet core router survival guide

This will be a lively and accessible lecture by Ensoft's Chief Technology Officer followed by time for questions and accompanied by a light buffet.

Gaming Night (LAN Party) 1

Date: Thursday Week 7 - 28 November 2013 Time: 07:00 PM  Facebook EventPlace: Undergraduate Social Area - Dept. of Computer ScienceTags: Lan Party

This is the first BIG Gaming Night of the year!

Come down for an evening of computer games, bring your laptop, a power cable, and an Ethernet cable along with you for a fun evening of anything from TF2, to Age of Empires, Doom, Unreal Tournament, or anything else you can think of.

Try and ensure that your games are up to date, because it will be difficult to try and update the games during the event (the connection is not expected to be amazing) and it will waste precious time.

There will of course be pizza and refreshments!

See you there!

Learn to Code with OE (Part 3 of 3): Professional Looking Sites

Date: Saturday Week 7 - 30 November 2013 Time: 11:00 AM  Facebook EventPlace: Saïd Business School

This is the third in a set of 3 events this term with Oxford Entrepreneurs (OE) where together we will be teaching the basics of front-end web development (HTML and CSS)

Learn how to create a professional-looking website and release it into the wilderness of Internet with just little effort. All you need is a laptop and basic understanding of HTML and CSS (like after attending one of our previous workshops). Result: Pro-looking-website skills.

Learn to Code: Session 7

Date: Saturday Week 7 - 30 November 2013 Time: 05:00 PM  Facebook EventPlace: Room 379 - Dept. of Computer ScienceTags: Learn to Code

Note: Remember to bring your laptop to these events!

About Learn to Code

During these events, there will be a mixture of interactive workshops and talks. We will be teaching you the basics of programming using Python. These events are good if you have zero coding experience, but they are also valuable if you already have started coding and would like to better your skills. We also welcome people who already have good coding experience as the more volunteers the better!

These events are always followed by our weekly Geek Night.

You can find out more information about this series of events over at ox.compsoc.net/learn

We also have a facebook group for discussion if you are taking part in this course: fb.com/groups/OXLearnToCode

...and a group for those who would like to volunteer: fb.com/groups/OXLearnToCodeHelpers

Geek Night 7 - With Guests from Entrepreneur First

Date: Saturday Week 7 - 30 November 2013 Time: 07:00 PM  Facebook EventPlace: Undergraduate Social Area - Dept. of Computer ScienceTags: Geek Night

This geek night will be a little different...

Entrepreneur First will be sending along CTO's from some of the companies they have helped accelerate. There will be a chance to chat to them about what it's really like taking such a big leap and deciding to start your own company!

Other than this, the night will be much the same, plenty of food, plenty of drinks, plenty of doing whatever you like!
