Welcome Back, Traveller,
It's Week 3 already and we're back with more of your favourite events! After a fun night of Competitive Programming yesterday evening, we have a roster of new and old events in store.
On Friday, we'll be taking some time to do some diligent work in the first study session
of the term! We'll be at Common Ground to work through some problem sheets together in a friendly environment. Afterwards, we'll head along to the Department for a talk from our sponsors at Helsing!
We'll be kicking off Saturday with the continuation
of our Learn to Code series – join us at Jesus College again to progress further along the path to programming success! Afterwards, join us at the Undergraduate Social Area for a brand-new sushi social! We'll be enjoying some sushi while playing some Jackbox
party games.
As usual, we end the week on Sunday with another bootcamp
session for Competitive Programming. If you felt rusty in our contest last night, make sure to come along to sharpen up your skills!

Fun Computing Fact: Last term, I mentioned the proposed standard for IP over semaphore, but I neglected to mention the more commonly
known proposal... IP over Avian Carriers! First described in RFC 1149 in 1990, this proposal describes the use of homing pigeons to carry Internet Protocol data packets. It's even been updated to support IPv6!
IPoAC was first implemented in April 2001 by a Linux usergroup, with nine pings sent over three miles. Four response packets were received – a packet loss of 55%, with an average response
time of 87 minutes!

Make sure to join OxWoCS (Oxford Women in CS), a society we're working closely with, if you identify as a woman
or woman-adjacent person in CS! They have a host of wonderful events on, including talks, panels and socials. Computer Science is unfortunately a subject with one of the biggest gender gaps in Oxford
and worldwide, and addressing this is at the core of OxWoCS.
