Bienvenue, Honoured Customer,
Welcome to Week 4! As we approach the half-way point of the term, we're not slowing down! We have a heap of new events in store to cater to every need.
On Tuesday, we'll be joined by friends at the Oxford University Physics Society for a
crewdate at Angrid Thai! Make sure to come along for an evening of socialising and scintillating conversation.
On Thursday, the week turns a touch academic – join us for a talk at the Department on
the world of PhDs! We'll be covering the benefits of studying for one, along with the experience you'll get along the way.
We have our usual double barrel of events on Saturday –
come along to Jesus College for the third Learn to Code instalment, and join us after in the Undergraduate Social Area for a movie night, accompanied with the pizza befitting of any Saturday Social.
Finally, we end off as we always do on Sunday with the
fourth in our series of Competitive Programming bootcamps! Make sure to come and train ready for our third contest of the term in Week 5.

Fun Computing Fact: We're going back to the Soviet Union for today's fun fact! Top-level
domains have been the subject of recent media speculation with the planned handover of the British Indian Ocean Territory, which could spell doom for websites making use of its .io TLD. One TLD that did survive past its country, however, is the .su TLD!
Originally designated for use within the former Soviet Union, the .su TLD was first allocated in September 1990 – only a year and three months before the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
It saw very little use for its intended purpose, being used most notably by the USSR's first Internet service provider, demos.su. It was, however, used by the Russian Federation before it received its own .ru TLD, and remains extant to this day! (and is primarily
used for cybercrime...)

Make sure to join OxWoCS (Oxford Women in CS), a society we're working closely with, if you identify as a woman
or woman-adjacent person in CS! They have a host of wonderful events on, including talks, panels and socials. Computer Science is unfortunately a subject with one of the biggest gender gaps in Oxford
and worldwide, and addressing this is at the core of OxWoCS.
