HT3 Newsletter: Learn Web Dev: JavaScript & an AWESOME AI ART BATTLE- Joint With Art Soc!
|
|
|
Hi everyone,
Computers are cool. I've been at a hackathon all weekend with some friends, and someone there made a receipt printer print out karaoke lyrics (to time!) and rickrolled us all. Pretty inventive! We managed to make a full - and really cool - rhythm/ fighter/
catgirl (:3) game we're all really proud of. There's like 10 seconds of our project in the hackathon highlights video here (https://youtu.be/8ybW48rKBME)
if you wanna check it out! The art soc social is going to be super fun so make sure you come!

Learn To Code HT Series: Web Dev For Beginners
|
Ever wanted to create your own content on the internet? Come and learn how to build your own pretty and mobile friendly website with Oscar, a second year CS student and experienced
dev.
This Saturday we will do more web dev. We will look into JavaScript, allowing you to respond to user input on your website. JavaScript will not take up the whole session, there should
be plenty of time for you to create your own web design using what you have learnt so far and I can help out when you get stuck.
Also don't worry if you missed the first two sessions, I will try my best to bring you up to speed. The materials are here: https://gg.gg/webandgit
When: 5:30-7:30PM, Saturday 11th February
Where: Seminar Room 051, Department of Computer Science 7
Parks Rd, Oxford OX1 3QG

Saturday Social: AI Art Battle with Art Soc!!!
|
Is AI art scary? Ghostly? Inspirational? Unique? (...Fuelled by massive art theft? ...that one's not up for debate guys.) Can we even really call it art?
Whatever your views, come join us for an epic AI inspired art battle- we'll be using an AI to generate prompts and then draw them, competing against Big Computer to make the best and
most creative pieces. If you can't draw, try having a haiku-off against ChatGPT, or just helping us judge!
We'll have some materials and paper but we'd love it if you bring your own too!

Make sure to join OxWoCS (Oxford Women in CS), a
society we're working closely with, if you identify as a woman or woman-adjacent
person in CS! They have a host of wonderful events on, including talks, panels and socials. Computer Science is unfortunately a subject with one of the biggest gender gaps in Oxford and worldwide, and addressing this is at the core of OxWoCS.

Mediterranean ML Summer School
|
A message from the Robotics dept.:
I am co-organizing the Mediterranean Machine Learning (M2L) summer school (www.m2lschool.org)
to promote education on state-of-the-art artificial intelligence techniques in the Mediterranean region (hence the name) to university students, graduates, and the industry. After two successful years in Italy, and distinguished speakers from Google, Microsoft,
Apple, NYU, Cambridge, Oxford and many local companies, this year, it will take place in the last week of August 2023 in Thessaloniki, Greece.
Last year we counted more than 180 participants from the hosting country and over the world. The one-week curriculum focuses on Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing and Reinforcement Learning.
The summer school is free and the applications just opened at https://www.m2lschool.org/!!
