Hi CompSoc Members,

It is my pleasure to write to you in the name of the newly elected committee: Lize (the President), Pavol (the Treasurer) and me, the society's Secretary. We have a wealth of news to convey in this hopefully short and comprehensible email, so without a further delay, let's get to the point:))

1/3 The Geek Night - We’d like to invite you to our inaugural social! It’s a great opportunity to meet, chat and discuss ideas with other CompSoc members so make yourself a cup of tea and join us on Discord (https://discord.gg/MQNKmzp) this Saturday! Any pizza bought during the event will be reimbursed by the CompSoc!🍕🍕🍕😋

2/3 Citadel Virtual Datathon

Hosted by Citadel LLC and Citadel Securities in partnership with Correlation One, the Data Open is inviting students in Europe to virtually compete at Europe Regional Datathon this Fall!

Top performing students have the opportunity to win USD$15,000 in cash prizes, exclusive recruiting opportunities with Citadel, and global recognition.

Taking place between November 1st and 8th, teams will have a week to work on their submissions, with the flexibility to showcase their skills on their own schedule. Europe Datathon is a regional data science competition, so it will be more exciting than our university-wide events and will bring the best students across Europe together!

Software Design Dilemmas: Choices We Make in a System With Over Two Million Hits a Day

About the event

Design analysis and large-scale development have been identified as two of the five subjects lacking in computer science education.

As graduates, we found it challenging to speak up in system design discussions. Today’s remote working environment has made meeting participation even more challenging. In fact, 45% of women leaders say it is difficult for women to speak up in virtual meetings.
Get a head start in your career by learning tips about dealing with dilemmas when designing large-scale systems.
