Hello All,

A huge thank you to all those of you who came to the AGM last week and helped elect the new committee for the next year.

Starting in Trinity the committee will be:

I am looking forward to another year on the committee and working closely with the new members. I also want to give a huge thank you to our current President Cameron Alsop and Treasurer James Wallis for their excellent work over the last year; and to Ex Presidents Joe Fowler and Sam Lanning, their assistance and knowledge has been essential in running the society.

We have plenty of space on the committee for new roles, so if there are any positions that you think the society could benefit from having please let us know by contacting the committee, either by email at committee@ox.compsoc.net, or by finding one us at any of our events.

Even though we are near to the end of term, we still have some great talks to go, as well as some more Learn To Code sessions and Geek Nights.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) we have a Tech Talk from Mark Olleson from Bloomberg on Super-scale Mobile Applications, food and drinks will be provided and we hope to see you there.

Learn To Code on Thursday will be providing some challenges for the main group to practice what they have learnt in the course, and covering Classes and Object Oriented Programming in the second group.

Geek Night will be on Saturday, join us for games, coding, and pizza.

Next week we are hosting HackCampus for their Startup Series Talk, they will be bringing developers from some exciting companies to talk about and answer any questions you may have about startups. Free pizza will be provided.

CompSoc Secretary

Super-scale Mobile Applications with Bloomberg

An email client. An instant messenger. A real-time financial market data viewer and news reader. A portfolio viewer. A note taker, file manager, media viewer, flight planner, restaurant finder..... All built into one secure, mobile application. On 4 different mobile operating systems. Does this sound challenging?

Mark Olleson from Bloomberg's Mobile team will discuss how conventional development tools and techniques scale poorly when faced with this challenge, and how Bloomberg tackles the problem.

Food and drinks will be provided after the talk.

Learn To Code 6

In Session 6, the main group will be able to choose from a variety of coding challenges, to practice everything they have learnt. Helpers will be on hand to advise and give tips. We will also be happy to help you with anything you have had difficulty with during the course, or answer any other questions you might have.

The secondary group will be covering Classes and Object Oriented Programming, plus file operations and random numbers.

The material from previous sessions can be found at https://ox.compsoc.net/learntocode/.

Doors will open at 7pm, for a 7:30pm start. The session will last 2 hours.

If you are interested in helping out at Learn to Code, please get in touch!
