One of our sponsors Ensoft will be holding a talk in the department:
How to survive nuclear attacks, the NSA, and major brain surgery: the Internet core router survival guide
This will be a lively and accessible lecture by Ensoft's Chief Technology Officer followed by time for questions and accompanied by a light buffet.
This is the first BIG Gaming Night of the year!
Come down for an evening of computer games, bring your laptop, a power cable, and an Ethernet cable along with you for a fun evening of anything from TF2, to Age of Empires, Doom, Unreal Tournament, or anything else you can think of.
Try and ensure that your games are up to date, because it will be difficult to try and update the games during the event (the connection is not expected to be amazing) and it will waste precious time.
There will of course be pizza and refreshments!
See you there!
This is the third in a set of 3 events this term with Oxford Entrepreneurs (OE) where together we will be teaching the basics of front-end web development (HTML and CSS)
Learn how to create a professional-looking website and release it into the wilderness of Internet with just little effort. All you need is a laptop and basic understanding of HTML and CSS (like after attending one of our previous workshops). Result: Pro-looking-website skills.
Note: Remember to bring your laptop to these events!
During these events, there will be a mixture of interactive workshops and talks. We will be teaching you the basics of programming using Python. These events are good if you have zero coding experience, but they are also valuable if you already have started coding and would like to better your skills. We also welcome people who already have good coding experience as the more volunteers the better!
These events are always followed by our weekly Geek Night.
You can find out more information about this series of events over at ox.compsoc.net/learn
We also have a facebook group for discussion if you are taking part in this course: fb.com/groups/OXLearnToCode
...and a group for those who would like to volunteer: fb.com/groups/OXLearnToCodeHelpers
This geek night will be a little different...
Entrepreneur First will be sending along CTO's from some of the companies they have helped accelerate. There will be a chance to chat to them about what it's really like taking such a big leap and deciding to start your own company!
Other than this, the night will be much the same, plenty of food, plenty of drinks, plenty of doing whatever you like!
Kind Regards,
The CompSoc Committee
