Our next social event this term is WAN Night! We’ll be closing off our year on the committee with a fan favourite, so head to Discord on Saturday for a night of gaming. We’ve also got a technical interview workshop from Google next week. Importantly, you’ll need to sign up to this event in advance so if you’re interested in advice on tackling interviews then see below for details! Furthermore, this year’s CompSoc AGM will be happening this Wednesday. Most importantly, we’ll be electing the new committee at this event. Any member of CompSoc, including freshers, is welcome (and encouraged!) to run for a position on the committee. It’s been a great experience for me and I recommend looking at the roles and seeing which might suit you! More details below. Learn to Code also continues this week on Thursday! Whether you’re keen to learn programming or have experience and want to help others learn, it’s a great opportunity. We’ve also got messages this week from the Oxford University Careers Service, TPP, Citadel and Google so check them out below.

As announced in our emails previously, the 2021 AGM is this week! See the attached agenda for a rundown of our plans for the event. We’ll be hosting it on our Discord server, similarly to the previous online General Meetings. As well as the usual business and motions that we have at meetings, we will also have the elections for the new committee! Please come to vote for the new committee, or to run yourself.

Learn to code! If you want to learn how to write code or refresh your knowledge, this course will teach introductory programming in the Python language with no prior experience necessary. Programming is a useful skill in a range of subjects and having some knowledge of it is a great way to improve your CV. Alternatively, if you’re already a CS student and would like to volunteer to help teach others some introductory Python, please contact the committee (replying to this email is fine) and we’ll get you connected!

We’ll be joined by two Google software engineers who will share some top tips for tackling the coding interviews, walk you through some previously used interview questions, and answer any questions you may have.

COMING THIS SPRING - Europe Regional Terminal
We are excited to announce Europe Regional Terminal, a $25,000 coding competition for talented undergraduate, graduate, and PhD students.
Taking place between March 8-15, the competition will be virtual and teams will be able to work remotely on their submissions for a week on their own schedules.
Terminal is a novel games-based AI challenge, where players code strategies to automate gameplay, battling team vs team for prize money and job opportunities. Check out this brief clip to see Terminal in action! Event Highlights include:

There are more than 100 exciting summer opportunities in the UK currently advertised through the Summer Internship Programme 2021.
The programme offers a mixture of in-person and remote internships of 2-12 weeks during the summer vacation (end of June-October 2021) in a wide range of sectors. The Internship Office continues to work closely with employers to ensure that Covid-19 safety measures are adhered to for each internship.
