Hello all, Hope you all enjoyed the film night and that those of you that went to the Deloitte meal enjoyed that as well. This week we have our first games night of the year, and our first games night outside of Catz! Be there this Tuesday (NB it is has been rescheduled for Tuesday from Wednesday). Details below. Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BoAML) Technology are sponsoring a LAN Party this term, think everything from Team Fortress 2 to Age of Empires, Dota to Starcraft, Unreal Tournaent to Super Moday Night Combat (and many other multiplayer games, open to suggestions). Once again, pizza and refreshments will be provided, and BoAML will be available to talk to as well. The Event will start with a small presentation from BoAML Technology (Around 7pm) including a Q&A Session, Networking and information about a competition to win an iPad 3. There will be people there to answer your questions regarding BoAML for the entire event. Pizza and Drinks will be there. If you plan on attending you will need to bring a laptop with any games you want to play installed and updated - Catz internet will be too slow to download stuff. You will also need a LAN cable and probably a power supply for your laptop. Team Fortess 2 and Super Monday Night Combat are both free to install and play from http://store.steampowered.com/ (you have to install Steam first, though). It is also possible to install TF2 from another computer with it already installed on, we will probably be able to facilitate this but should stress that it is a much better idea to make sure it is installed and up to date beforehand. Hey Everyone, Next week we have the games night sponsored by Bank of America in the Computer Science Building. As it's in the computer science building, we need to arrange a way of getting you guys access to the building. Anyone who marks themselves as "going" in the facebook event (or if you send me an email instead) will have their bod cards allow them access to the building for the evening. So please do this as soon as possible. We will be sending an email to the department around 6pm tonight, so make sure you get this sorted now. We'll explain how, at Red Gate Software, we go about taking an idea and launching it into a project, how our teams all hang together and how we get to the end result of a world-class piece of software. Break a Hacker's Mind: Web Application Vulnerabilities Exposed... Join us for an interactive session with the IT Security group at Morgan Stanley: "Break a Hacker's Mind: Web Application Vulnerabilities Exposed...". Together we will work through a web application the group has created which is riddled with the common issues through which banking applications can be compromised. We use this application internally to demonstrate to our development community how an attacker would exploit web vulnerabilities and to explain remediation strategies. We have also delivered this talk at industry forums, universities and even the House of Lords. Charles Clarke (Lincoln, 2007) and Aldwin Saugere (former penetration tester, now a Security Architect) will lead this session. Pizzas will be served! An opportunity for female STEM students!

Hello all, Here is a message from Morgan Stanley the deadline for applications is monday, so you've got to be quick - Morgan Stanley, the world leading financial services firm, is hosting an insight day - exclusively for women interested in learning more about potential careers in technology - and they would like us to invite you to attend. The event is being held in central London on the Wednesday 24^th October at the bank's offices between 10am and 5pm. It is open to female STEM students who are due to graduate in 2013 or 2014 and all travel expenses will be covered. If selected to attend, you will receive a day of insightful presentations by firm representatives, engaging group exercises, a tour of their offices in Canary Wharf, mock interviews and a networking lunch with their technology representatives. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the possible careers in this sector -- and to get noticed by the right people.
