Hi Everyone, Thank you to everyone who signed up to our mailing list during freshers' fair. This is the first of a weekly newsletter you will receive. You can unsubscribe from this list at any time via our website. First point to make is that we also run a "jobs" mailing list ( http://ox.compsoc.net/members/mailing_lists/), we get a large number of job advertisement requests (thing freelance work, internal Oxford work, graduate / internship opportunities etc...), and we will not spam you with these, but if you are interested in receiving these kind of emails, feel free to sign up to this list. Second thing is Events! Beyond Google, he's better known for his is involvement in the C# community and particularly the Stack Overflow Q&A site. Jon has a maths degree and a diploma in computer science from "the other place." Hello Everyone! Welcome back to Oxford! We hope you have had a great summer, and are well refreshed ready for the year ahead. And we hope those of you not in studying any more have a great summer none the less and are settling into your careers nicely. First things first, we have a new website!!! There is still lots of work that needs to be done to it, but we have made that oh-so-difficult leap to actually implementing enough of it to switch over. Second thing, Events! This term is set to be a big one! With 3 events per week, we have plenty to keep you on your toes. Along with our usual wednesday evening events, we have our weekly "Geek Nights" which proved a success last year, and we're introducing a "Learn to Code" Course which will be held directly before the Geek Nights. Hi Everyone, We hope you have had a good term, and attended enough CompSoc events! We've certainly had a great time, with the Facebook hackathon, Rebellion Games Games Night, Dionach Capture the Pi Challenge and talk from GreenQloud, along with our weekly geek nights. As many of you are aware, we were originally going to plan for a Cocktails night this term, but we have taken the decision, due to the looming exams and revision, to cancel this event, and we will be hosting no further mid-week events for the rest of term. We will however continue hosting our Saturday Geek Nights! So come on down if you need an escape from exams, or anything else for that matter! And for everyone sitting exams, good luck!!! Hacking Event this week (with Raspberry Pis) and CompSoc Competition

Hi Everyone! This week we have a really cool event lined up! Dionach (a white-hat pen testing company based on the outskirts of our fine city) are coming in with a load of raspberry pi's set up with particular vulnerabilities. They will talk a bit about particular vulnerabilities and get teams of people to try and break into them remotely. This is definitely an event you will want to come down to! Also, this week, we have a competition running, organised by our secretary Greg: > CompSoc is having mini competition to see who can make the best Sevens > playing program! Games Night This Week

Hi Everyone, Hope term has gone well for you all so far! It's been pretty hectic so far for us CompSoc people. With 3 Geek Nights, a hackathon, and a film night already done, and lots more to come, the best we to spend your relaxation time this term definitely seems to be here! This week we have our termly Games Night! So bring your laptops down to the usual place at the usual time on Wednesday for many hours of LAN Party goodness. The event this week is also sponsored by Rebellion Games who have agreed to bring along some extra free games to play, along with some funding for pizza of course. We also have our usual Geek Night this Saturday, so come along down to that if you feel like a relaxing evening with pizza and computer related banter.
