On Wednesday at 6pm, we're joined in Lecture Theatre B of the Department by Kitty Mayo for a talk on starting companies that promises to be scintillating!
On Saturday, we have yet another pair of events – at 5:30pm, we're back in Jesus College one more time for Learn to Code, followed by the Termly General Meeting at 7pm! Come along to the Undergraduate Social Area to have your say on the future of CompSoc, followed by a mini Saturday Social to send off the term. If you'd like to submit a motion to be voted on, make sure to join our Discord server for further information!
For Sunday, we close off with one last Competitive Programming bootcamp at 1:30pm. Make sure to come along and get some final practice in before so your skills aren't lost in the cold winter vacation.
Finally, the eagle-eyed amongst you may have spotted the end-of-term social on our termcard originally scheduled for this week – fear not! The social has been moved to Week 8. Stay tuned for further information...

Fun Computing Fact: Apple recently completed the transition of their Mac line from Intel to ARM processors. But, while we may have been used to seeing Windows on a Mac before 2020, did you know that the Intel to ARM transition wasn't Apple's first platform shift, or even their second – it was their third!
The Macintosh in 1984 debuted with a processor based on Motorola's legacy 68k architecture. However, this quickly looked aged, and in 1994, Apple began a transition to the PowerPC architecture with the debut of the Power Macintosh. This relied heavily upon a low-level 68k emulator in Mac OS, which even ran core operating system code!
After the failure to make a promised 3 GHz Mac, Apple began the transition from PowerPC to Intel in 2006. The work was easier this time – Mac OS X had been compiled for Intel for most of its existence. For software, Apple included the Rosetta dynamic translation software, which could launch seamlessly to run PowerPC apps on Intel Macs. They also introduced Universal binaries, which packed PowerPC and Intel code together in one app, allowing one binary to be used on either platform at full speed.

Computer Science is unfortunately a subject with one of the biggest gender gaps in Oxford and worldwide, and addressing this is at the core of OxWoCS.
