Belated Week 6 Newsletter: Brand new social this Saturday!

Hi everyone! As a reminder, our next Wednesday event is *next week’s AGM*. We’ll be electing the new committee. That's right, YOU could be sending these newsletters next term! I strongly encourage everyone (including freshers!) to apply for any position they think is interesting. If you’d like to know more about any of the roles then you’re more than welcome to email the relevant committee member. If you’d like to submit a *motion* for the meeting then please let me know by Monday of Week 7 so I have time to get that in the agenda. For Saturday, we’ve been cooking up something new with some members of the Quantum Group. I think it’s just best if you come down and see it for yourselves, but remember to bring a laptop! Jane Street - Women in Trading and Technology We are excited to host our sixth year of WiTT at Jane Street! Will you be there? For: Women in their second year of study in Autumn 2020 Dates: 20th - 23rd September 2020 Women in Trading and Technology (WiTT) is a three-day programme designed for women in their penultimate year of university as of autumn 2020. Participants will have an exclusive opportunity to explore careers within our firm and attend one of two educational programmes: quantitative trading and software engineering. Both programmes feature interactive classes and activities during the day, and evening social events to speak with Jane Street employees and other women attending the event in a more casual setting. The quantitative trading programme focuses on mathematical and financial topics—such as probability, market structure, and arbitrage—through a combination of short classroom lectures, group games, and mock trading sessions. There is a curriculum of core subjects with flexibility to explore alternative areas of interest, and plenty of opportunities for close interaction with our traders. The software engineering programme focuses on the fundamentals of building electronic trading systems, OCaml, and the library and tools we use in our everyday work at Jane Street. Participants will put these tools to use by writing the back end and UI for a computer game, along with a program that trades on a simulated stock exchange. These activities involve a combination of classroom lectures, group games and exercises, and one-on-one mentorship. Selected students will arrive in London on the evening of Sunday, 20 September and will depart the evening of Wednesday, 23 September. Jane Street will provide all travel to and from London, accommodation at a hotel near the office, and of course, plenty of food and drinks throughout the event. Jane Street is a quantitative trading firm that uses innovative technology, a scientific approach, and a deep understanding of markets to guide our business. Founded in 2000, Jane Street employs more than 1,100 people with offices in New York, London, Amsterdam, and Hong Kong. We are always on the lookout for great new people to join our team. The environment at Jane Street is open, informal, intellectual, and fun. The dress code is casual, the kitchen is stocked, and discussions are always lively. Week 5 Newsletter: Bar Crawl and an AGM announcement

Morning everyone, It’s Ben, your Vice-President taking over from Kate for this week. This Saturday, CompSoc is (probably) having its first ever bar crawl, so stay tuned to our Facebook page for details and let us know if you think your college bar has what it takes! Coming up in week 7 we have our Annual General Meeting where we’ll be electing our new committee, any member can turn up and run for a position so come along if you want to be involved in running Oxford’s cheapest dining society. If anyone has any questions about what its like to be on the committee (especially being vp) do get in touch. Sadly our efforts to find talks for the last few weeks of this term have been in vain, but I have it on good authority that our next committee will work flat out to get a good slate of Trinity talks! Week 4 Newsletter: Mini Hackathon 2: Electric Boogaloo

Evening all, It was great to see so many of you on Saturday! Smash was great and I hope everyone appreciates the new VR equipment we have available now :) This Saturday will see the return of the Mini Hackathon, with a new mystery theme! This was tonnes of fun last time and I personally can’t wait to see what the theme will be this time around. We’re afraid our Bronze sponsors *Citadel* and *Metaswitch* also haven’t been able to get talks sorted for this term, so we’re eventless again this Wednesday. We haven’t been able to get a replacement for this week, but we’re working hard to get a doubly interesting talk next week to make up for it!
