Hi everyone,
Thanks to all those who turned up at the Facebook Event last week, we
had a great turnout!
This week unfortunately Unity are unable to do their talk so instead
we're going to have lightning talks at the same time and place, followed
as usual by pizza. We are still interested in having more speakers at
this event. Details Below.
On Saturday we are having geek night again as usual.
Also included at the end of this email is a message about a Geek Girl
Meetup being held at the Uni.
Cheers,
Pete & Sam

interested, so that we know how many speakers to expect.
The projector will be available for you to use, and of course you dont
need to present / talk to attend!

Geek Girl Meetup Oxford
Geek Girl Meetup is holding its first ever University showcase
un-conference at Oxford University on February 17th, between 13.00 and
18.00 at the Founders Room in the Said Business School. The afternoon
will revolve around empowering more female students that are interested
in technology and entrepreneurship.
There will be 8 distinguished female entrepreneurs and technologists
that will speak about what it is like to found a company, and go through
a product lifecycle (idea, concept, design, development, marketing,
financing, and growth). There will also be discussions allowing every
participant to share their knowledge with others and ask questions.
Geek Girl Meetup's goal is to create new networks and elevate female
role models in the tech industry. Tickets and more information is
available
here: http://www.geekgirlmeetup.co.uk/2013/01/geekgirlmeetup-at-oxford-university/
Hi Everyone,
Due to Unity Technologies not being able to come down and give us a
talk, after discussion, the committee have decided to instead host a
lightning talks session (a number of 5-10 minute talks packed together
one after another). So if you have something computer-related you would
like to present to attendees of this event, just send an email over to
committee(a)ox.compsoc.net letting us know that you're interested, so that
we know how many speakers to expect.
The event is going to take place in at the same time and place that the
unity talk was going to, Wed 30th January, 6:30pm in Lecture Theatre A.
So yes you also have a projector if you would like to incorporate that
into your presentation.
You can find the facebook event over here:

Looking forward to seeing you at the event!
Pete & Sam,
President & Secretary
Hi everybody,
Unfotunately Unity are unable to come and do their talk next week, so we
are currently trying to find a replacement event. We will send out
details of that as soon as we know about them. Sorry for anyone excited
for the event, we will try to rearrange this talk for next term.
One potential option is to have a set of lightning talks where anyone
can do a brief talk on whichever computer related subject they like. If
you would like a chance to practise your public speaking, and have an
idea for such a talk, please get in touch - if we do end up doing it
would be nice to know how many speakers we could get.
We will try to update you as soon as possible.
Cheers,
Pete
Hello Everybody,
Hope everyone enjoyed the first coding night - maybe next time we will
actually do some coding.
I apologise for paintball being cancelled, we will try to rearrange this

Looking forward, this week we have a talk from Facebook, details below.
Also we will have another coding night. If you are interested in coming

Hi,
Tonight's event will be in the Catz JCR Lecture Theatre rather than the
PDR like it normally is.
This Saturday we will have our first 'coding night'. We are going to
host a social coding session (and plan to do so every Saturday) where
you can come along, eat pizza, and collaborate on whatever projects you
might want to work on.
This will be held in the undergraduate social area, from 7pm. Details on
the website.
In addition to this, there is a hackathon in the works for Oxford
Entrepeneurs, where people would come along with ideas for something
they would like made, and then people who like to program come along,
listen, and work together on whichever of these projects they are
interested in. More concrete details will be available at a later date,
but if this is something that would interest you, please respond and
tell us, because we would like to start to get an idea of numbers.
Cheers,
Pete
Hello everybody,
I hope you all had a good holiday and are ready for the new term.
This week we have, as always the welcome back drinks, and, excitingly,
paintball vs Cambridge! We are currently fully booked for this event,
but if you would like to come you should still email us to sign up, and
we will add you to the waiting list in case people drop out.
Cheers,
Pete
