We will give a short tutorial outlining and illustrating the concept, followed by a hands-on competition to see who can MitM the apps used by the largest number of people in the time available. Netcraft staff will be available when you want help. Food & drinks will be provided.

We are at the cusp of some far-reaching technological advances that will be of tremendous benefit to sensory research. Within a few short years we will be able to test thousands of people from any demographic with 'connected' technology every bit as good as we use in our labs today — indeed more so. Here, Dr Woods discusses on-web versus in-lab, predicted technological advances and issues with online research.
Dr. Andy Woods received his PhD from Trinity College, Dublin, in Multisensory Psychology and have subsequently postdoc'd in Bangor (Wales) and later in Manchester (England). He also spent 4 years as a research scientist working for industry in the Netherlands (Unilever R&D). His research remains primarily focused in the field of multisensory psychology. For the past 6 years he has been developing the 'Xperiment' software package, which lets scientists conduct research interchangeably on the internet, on the phone/pad through Xperiment apps, or in the lab.

Hello All,
With Term fast approaching, we have a couple of notices about the society about this term.
Mailing Lists
We are making some changes to the way mailinglists are going to be run this term, to make sure you're seeing the content you're interested in. We will be using 3 mailing lists; compsoc-members, compsoc-jobs, and compsoc-freshers.
Compsoc members will be where we announce events that will be running throughout term, including talks and our weekly newsletter. Compsoc Jobs will have any job advertisements from tech companies, and other groups. Compsoc freshers will be a mailing list for any freshers who sign up at freshers fair, and will have details specifically for new members of the society.
These changes will be happening from the start of term, so please make sure you're signed up to the correct lists to be sure you're getting the content you're looking for. Please note the fresher's list will be cleared out at the start of term, so if you want to continue to get updates about the society do sign up to the member's list. Details of how to sign up to mailing lists can be found on our website: http://ox.compsoc.net/members/mailing_lists/
Freshers Fair
Freshers fair will be happening on Wednesday to Friday of 0th week (that's the 7th, 8th and 9th of October), and we are looking for volunteers to help man the stall. There is a link to the different shifts (2 people are needed for each), so if you are able to spare some time, let us know which shift you're able to do, and we'll add you to the rota. The rota can be found at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YxZKb-Bnxev7nDaFuZMrkcBE_33pmHVH2YP…

Hi all,
Here's our latest round of opportunities and/or other events of interest.

Ensoft Career and Internship Deadline 10am Friday 28th
We develop software that connects the world. The internet depends every
single day on the code we write. It's interesting and challenging work
that matters. It’s also fun - being really good at writing complex
software is what we enjoy.
We are offering graduate jobs for next September, with a starting salary
of £35,000. Summer internships are also available.
Our application process is very simple:
- Email a CV to recruitment(a)ensoft.co.uk
<mailto:recruitment@ensoft.co.uk>by *10am on Friday 28th November*
- Interviews (lasting no more than 2 hours) are held the following
Tuesday at The University Club, Oxford.
- If successful, you'll have a firm offer quickly.
You can find more details on www.ensoft.co.uk/careers
<http://www.ensoft.co.uk/careers>, or get reminders by following us on
Twitter (@ensoftuk) or Facebook (ensoftuk). But I would encourage you
to apply soon. Whilst everything is designed to take up as little of
your time as we can, it is still very competitive for places.
Thanks for your time, we hope to hear from you soon.
OxHack helpers
The organisers of OxHack <oxhack.co.uk> is looking for people to help
with running the event this weekend. If you would like to help out, or
have any questions regarding the event, get in touch with James May
<mailto:james.may@oxfordentrepreneurs.co.uk>.

Hi All,
See below for a round-up of some of the recent opportunities we have
been sent.
Regards,
Joe
FundingKnight
FundingKnight are looking for a junior developer to join our programming team.
FundingKnight are a disruptive Peer to Business (P2B) lending company, arranging loans from groups of individuals (who might have as little as 5 pounds to invest) to UK businesses looking to borrow between 50-150k pounds. Our business model combines an emphasis on human contact with our borrowers, and a self-service web solution for lenders (albeit with a human available at the end of a phone for those who need it.)
Our platform is, therefore, the core of what we do. A set of business engines handle all the core business information, abstracting it away from the backend MySQL into a set of APIs. The front-end calls those APIs and turns them into a web page suitable for the customer's device.
This is handling real money for real people - testing is a critical part of what we do, and the junior developer will be someone looking to get experience across all the aspects of developing a site, not just the code-cutting silo - so testing, code promotion, and documentation will be as big a part of your role as coding.
You'll be passionate about writing code, though it's more important that you understand things like abstraction and big-O notation than it is that you have language-specific experience in the tools we use - PHP, JavaScript, JQuery, JQUI and HighCharts.
Our Chief Programmer was at New College, where she read Engineering Science, and our CTO at Balliol, where he read Maths/Comp (as it was back then), so we're keen to talk to candidates from a range of analytical backgrounds, not just those who've studied CS.
This is a back-office type role, where jeans and T-shirts, rather than suits and ties, are expected 90% of the time, and where you'll be interviewed by the people you'll be working with as much (or more) than the person you'll be working for.
The development office is based a little south of Gatwick in West Sussex, and you'll be expected to be there most of the time in your first few weeks with the business. However, we are keen to promote remote working, (after those first few weeks), so we'd certainly consider someone whose intention was to remain Oxford-based long-term.
Please apply with a CV and a covering email to the CTO - mark(a)fundingknight.com - the CV can be in any reasonably common format - Word, OpenOffice, PDF, link to a web page..
Social Entrepreneurship Society Web Course

AKQA Technology Graduate Role applications now open

The Programme covers 12 months and is made up of four three-month rotations in the core disciplines of Web Development, Software Engineering, Mobile, Quality Assurance, the final rotation being in a mutually agreed specialism.
As an AKQA Technology Graduate you'll be immersed in exciting projects from day one, because we believe that the best way to learn is by doing. You'll spend time developing a blend of specialist knowledge and entrepreneurial skills. This understanding will provide a platform for you to advance the discipline, make an enduring and positive contribution to society, our clients and AKQA.
Applications for this programme are now open, and close on 31st December. Please register your interest here: http://www.akqa.com/careers/london/technology/technology-graduate/
