Dear Joe,
I have an interesting BP sponsored internship that I would like to advertise to the CompSoc. Would you be able to let your members know of the following opportunity?
I have worked with the University of Ouro Preto in Brazil to secure 2 internships within their High Performance Computing Lab working on an environmental simulator project (http://www.decom.ufop.br/hpclab/jsensor/?lang=en). Eligible non finalist undergraduates and postgraduates from MPLS division would receive £3000 of BP funding (www.careers.ox.ac.uk/internship-funding<http://www.careers.ox.ac.uk/internship-funding>). The university are flexible with dates, so the student could fit their flights around the World Cup to suit them.
The internships are currently advertised on CareerConnect<http://www.careers.ox.ac.uk/our-services/careerconnect/> (Position ID: 58627), with a closing date of 06/04/2014.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Many thanks,
Cat

*Hello World Open 2014: The First Coding World Championships*
http://www.helloworldopen.com
The first ever Coding World Championships, Hello World 2014,
welcomes future stars of coding. About 10 000 teams of top coders are
expected to participate in the exceptional battle organised by the creative
technology company Reaktor and the mobile game developer Supercell.
The challenge of each team is to create an artificial intelligence -- also
known as a bot -- to take part in a digital car racing game. In
the traditional spirit of international sporting events, team members
should all share a nationality.
The finals will eventually take place in Helsinki, Finland on June 5th at
the Cable Factory. As a warm-up to the event, Supercell's second annual
gaming summit will be held earlier that day.
Qualifying rounds will be split into three divisions and
grouped geographically by region. Only the top two qualifiers from each
region will then compete in the live finals. As always in sports, the crowd
has an important role in these World Championships as well. Everyone's got
a chance to follow the matches of thousands of top coders online.
Coding World Championships offers a great chance of getting to know future
colleagues and employers in an international race.
The preliminary timetable for Hello World Open is as follows:
March 31st - Sign up starts. Participating in the competition is free of
charge.
April 7th - Sign up ends
Qualifying rounds will be held online. Follow the matches at
helloworldopen.com
May 6th - Hello Region 1
May 7th - Hello Region 2
May 8th -Hello Region 3
June 5th - *Coding World Finals*: six of the world's toughest coding
teams meet in Helsinki, Finland.
Reaktor arranged the first Finnish Coding Championships in 2012.
The objective was to code an artificial intelligence for a Pong-bot and
beat all the other teams in table tennis. The event was a huge success:
over 200 teams got involved and enrolled in the competition. The
Championships reached over one million Finns within 24 hours, in a country
of five million people.
*About Reaktor*
Reaktor is a creative technology company that constructs
exceptionally well-functioning services. Reaktor's team of 250
professionals consists of service designers, interaction designers, art
