Hi all,
The term is over and I hope you're enjoying a relaxing vacation/the
revision before exams 🤢.
Sadly, this will be my final email as President. I've been grateful for
the opportunity to try out so many things whilst on the committee: from
organising packed tech talks and a trip to Bletchley Park, to administering
a cheese fund and ordering enough pizza to sustain a small country. Thanks
again to all the committee members I've worked with (Thomas Denney, Will
Seymour, Joe Gardiner and Ben Slater). I'm sure the new committee will
enjoy their roles as much as I have and I look forward to the new things
they'll bring.

Technology Graduate Programme deadline approaching!
*The deadline for HSBC's Technology Graduate Programme is now just two
weeks away (31 March)!*
Apply soon – HSBC recruits on a rolling basis.
*Overview of the programme*
On this two-year graduate programme you will join our global Technology
team. You will help to develop technologies that will improve the way we
serve our customers and transform the world's leading international bank.
*What will you do?*
Throughout the two-year rotational programme you will help us find
solutions to some of the biggest technology challenges in the financial
services industry. You’ll work with teams to develop the technologies that
enable simpler, better and faster banking for our customers, while keeping
their money safe and their data secure.
You will be close to the forefront of the latest technological advancements
and thinking, whilst focusing on key strategic areas such as cloud,
cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, data and applied innovation. Along
the way, we partner you with a buddy who will be there to give you advice
and share ideas, as well as a mentor to support and help guide your career
throughout the programme and beyond.
You will be empowered to own and shape your career and to take full
advantage of all learning opportunities on offer, including our recently
launched Technology Academy, to develop core technical and leadership
capabilities. You will also be encouraged to grow and develop your
professional network, both within Technology and across the bank.
*Who will this suit?*
Successful candidates will be technologically literate, analytical, display
creativity, show drive and excel at solving problems and building
relationships.
We are looking for true technologists who are innovative and curious, who
have a hunger for knowledge, the willingness to learn from others and who
are self-motivated to solve complex problems. Ideal candidates are those
who are:
- Innovative and creative thinkers who challenge themselves and each
other, push the boundaries of their thinking, learn from each other and
have the confidence to explore new ideas
- Problem-solvers who have the ability to tackle complex challenges in a
structured and analytical way, using data and logic to come up with
solutions
- People and team oriented and who enjoy collaborating with colleagues
and clients to achieve common goals
- Customer minded and who understand that everything we do is aimed at
improving services for our customers
*What can this lead to?*
Your experience on the graduate programme will equip you to develop both
deep technical capabilities and core leadership skills in an international
finance organisation. Over time, we expect to see graduates from this
programme progressing to become members of our Global Technology Leadership
team.

Metaswitch graduate opportunities
Metaswitch is powering the transition of communication networks into a
cloud-based, software-centric, all-IP future. We create the technology that
is making the next generation of voice, video and data networks more
flexible, more reliable and easier to use.
We work with customers across the world, from established giants – such as
BT, AT&T, Cisco and Microsoft – to more nimble companies (like us), who are
creating the next big breakthroughs in the ways we communicate.
Software engineering is an exceptionally creative discipline. Working with
some of the smartest engineers around, you’ll develop flexible and scalable
software architectures – the enduring structures that make innovative
services possible within communications networks.
From day one, you will be assigned real tasks working
within a project team
on the design and development of complex software. You will
use your
analytical skills to reduce each problem you encounter into its individual
parts, and then work to solve each issue and turn your design into reality.
You need an excellent academic record, a good degree in any subject, an
enquiring mind and the ability to solve complex problems. You do not need
any prior experience – we provide full training in house on a one to one
basis.
