Hey everyone,
Our final social for this term is WAN Night. Come down to Discord on
Saturday for a night of online gaming! We also have a tech talk this
Wednesday from Cisco entitled /Have Your Robots Call My Robots - Using
formal methods for robust network automation/, see below for more info.
We are planning to have our Termly General Meeting next week, so if
there is anything you would like discussed relating to this society
please reply to this email and let us know. We had some suitably
oxmas-themed fun last week, with some (debatably) fantastic Drawful
drawings. We’ve also got a message from Cisco this week so check it out
below if you’re interested in learning about their roles.
Lastly, we are aware that we are currently experiencing some technical
issues with our website. We thank you for your patience as we get this
problem sorted.
If you aren’t already on the CompSoc Discord, you can *join it here
<https://discord.gg/RhvsMSn>* to take part in social events and keep in
touch with other members.
See you soon,
/- Matthew and the rest of the committee/

Creating a better, cheaper Internet for all depends on network
operations moving away from humans to software automatons.
This raises technical challenges, where techniques originating in
automated theorem proving are highly practical.
This will be an accessible talk (that won’t assume deep knowledge of
either networking or formal methods) by Cisco Distinguished Engineer
Simon Chatterjee.

to no more than two entrants. Don't worry about coming to the event with
a teammate, you're welcome to form your teams at the event.

*13:00, Tuesday, Week 4*
*What is it about?*
One of our Bloomberg Engineers, Dietmar Kuhl will be uncovering
everything Hashing.
Hashing values is an important technique for efficient associative
containers. It has multiple independent dimensions of considerations.
None of these considerations are generally well understood. This
presentation scratches the surface of the following areas:
* Using hash functions for associative containers.
* Hashing byte sequences into hash values and assessing the quality of
hash functions.
* Extracting byte sequences from values and hashing the resulting byte
sequences.
* Things to consider for a default hashing function
