Hi Everyone,
Hope you all had a great break away from uni!
This week is going to be a bit of a quiet one, so we have decided to
host a film night, along with the usual learn to code events and geek
night (which is now members only, details of how to become a member can
be found here: https://ox.compsoc.net/join/)
Later on in term, we will be having Facebook, Google, Ensoft and
Entrepreneur First hosting events with us, other events are still to be
finalised. In the meantime, I hope to see you at the film night! =)

Hi Everyone!
Hope you have had a great festive holiday and new-years celebration! =)
King's College London Tech Society and King's College London Business
Club have kindly invited CompSoc and it's members to attend a Hackathon
that they are going to be running in cooperation with Codecademy.
> Students representing different societies from the best UK
> universities will be competing over 24 hours for various rewards,
> which include exclusive recruitment networking invitations, cash
> prizes and internship opportunities at our partner, Codecademy.
> See www.hackkings.org <http://www.hackkings.org/> for further information.
The event has limited places, so if you are interested, I suggest you
sign up ASAP! This looks like it is going to be an extraordinary event,
and a great opportunity to meet people from other techy societies and to
have good fun.
The event is free to attend, but the organisers have said we will need
to find our own way there. If there is enough interest from CompSoc
members, and enough sign up, we may be able to arrange something with
regards to travel. We'll announce anything regarding this when we can.
Please drop us a line if you sign up to this so we can keep a list of
who is attending.
Hope to see many of you there!

Hi Everyone,
The term is drawing to a close, and we're wrapping up with the last
couple of events this term.
Firstly, Learn to Code and Geek Night have been cancelled (as there will
be less people available to attend than previously expected).
We have out all-important TGM this week, as well as a second LAN Night,
this time sponsored by Rebellion!!!
In addition to all this, next week (week 9) St. Cross College will be
hosting a LAN Party, the details of which are below! =)
We hope you all have an awesome christmas holiday!
TGM (Termly General Meeting)
<http://ox.compsoc.net/events/2013/michaelmas/tgm/>
Date: Wednesday Week 8 - 04 December 2013 Time: 07:00 PM Facebook Event

Social Area - Dept. of Computer Science
<http://ox.compsoc.net/events/venue/compsci_social_area/>Tags: General
Meeting <http://ox.compsoc.net/events/tags/general_meeting/>
Once a term, the society has a meeting to discuss the last term, and
plans going forward! It is a formal meeting, and we recommend you come
if you're interested in getting involved in running the society.
Things we cover include:
* Finances and Budgets (see how much we really spend on pizza)
* Events (past and future)
* Potential new committee positions
* Suggestions from members
We'll also be providing pizza (or some other food) as per usual =)
Gaming Night (LAN Party) 2

<http://ox.compsoc.net/events/tags/lan_party/>
The second and last LAN Party of term, this time sponsored by Rebellion!
Come down for an evening of computer games, bring your laptop, a power
cable, and an Ethernet cable along with you for a fun evening of
anything from TF2, to Age of Empires, Doom, Unreal Tournament, DOTA,
LOL, or anything else you can think of.
Try and ensure that your games are up to date, because it will be
difficult to try and update the games during the event (the connection
is not expected to be amazing) and it will waste precious time.
There will of course be pizza and refreshments (paid for by reebllion)
and possibly a couple of other goodies!
See you there!

Hi Everyone,
Here's a quick message from one of our Sponsors, Ensoft, about their
application deadline.
Also just a reminder, Ensoft will be hosting a talk in the department
today at 1pm, it's set to be awesome! Here's the facebook event:

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi,
We wanted to let you know that the Ensoft deadline for graduate and
internship applications is fast approaching.
We develop software that connects the world. The internet depends every
single day on the code we write. It's interesting and challenging work
that matters. It's also fun - being really good at writing complex
software is what we enjoy.
We are offering graduate jobs for next September, with a starting salary
of £33,000. Summer internships are also available.
Our application process is very simple:
- Email a CV to recruitment(a)ensoft.co.uk
<mailto:recruitment@ensoft.co.uk>by *10am on Friday 29th November*
- Interviews (lasting no more than 2 hours) are held the following
Wednesday at The University Club, Oxford.
- If successful, you'll have a firm offer quickly.
You can find more details on www.ensoft.co.uk/careers, or get reminders
by following us on Twitter (@ensoftuk) or Facebook (ensoftuk). But I
would encourage you to apply soon. Whilst everything is designed to take
up as little of your time as we can, it is still very competitive for
places.
Thanks for your time, we hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Everyone,
We have plenty of awesome stuff lined up for you this week!
Firstly Ensoft, one of our sponsors, will be having a talk on *Wednesday
Afternoon* at the Department. This is not a CompSoc event, but there
will still however be some food! =)
The main event this week will be a LAN Party on Thursday (/Note:
Thursday not Wednesday/). There will be the usual purchase of lots of
pizza and refreshments, and we plan on playing until late! It will be epic!
We will also not only have the main Learn to Code event this week, but
also the joint Oxford Entrepreneurs and CompSoc Learn to Code class! So
if you are interested in extending any HTML and CSS Skills you have,
here is the place to do it! =)
Our geek night this week also has a couple of guest CTOs of companies
that have been accelerated by Entrepreneur First attending. They'll be
there for you to ask questions about entrepreneurship and what to do
after uni!
We hope to see you at many of our events this week!!! =)

About Learn to Code
During these events, there will be a mixture of interactive workshops
and talks. We will be teaching you the basics of programming
using Python <http://www.python.org/>. These events are good if you have
zero coding experience, but they are also valuable if you already have
started coding and would like to better your skills. We also welcome
people who already have good coding experience as the more volunteers
the better!
These events are always followed by our weekly Geek Night
<http://ox.compsoc.net/events/tags/geek_night/>.
You can find out more information about this series of events over
at ox.compsoc.net/learn <http://ox.compsoc.net/learn/>
We also have a facebook group for discussion if you are taking part in
this course: fb.com/groups/OXLearnToCode
<https://www.facebook.com/groups/OXLearnToCode/>
...and a group for those who would like to
volunteer: fb.com/groups/OXLearnToCodeHelpers

Entrepreneur First <http://www.entrepreneurfirst.org.uk/> will be
sending along CTO's from some of the companies they have helped
accelerate. There will be a chance to chat to them about what it's
really like taking such a big leap and deciding to start your own company!
Other than this, the night will be much the same, plenty of food, plenty
of drinks, plenty of doing whatever you like!
