Meet Gez Smith, HSBC’s Global Head of Agile. Agile is the modern approach to software development, emphasising customer satisfaction, quality and developer self-organisation. HSBC transferred its development teams to Agile in 2016 and – combined with fresh investment – has since seen dramatic improvements in efficiency, productivity and service availability.

Gez has over 13 years experience in agile and Scrum and is a regular speaker at conferences and user group meet ups in the UK and abroad. He loves to meet new people and talk agile.

This talk will be of interest to anybody interested in project management (such as 2nd year CS projects 😉), HSBC’s tech culture and, of course, HSBC’s many opportunities in tech, from developers to business management.

TPP is excited to announce a Coding Challenge on Wednesday 13th February, in collaboration with the Oxford Computer Society!

Unlike a typical pub quiz, you’ll need to exercise your problem solving skills to tackle the range of challenges set instead of applying your general knowledge.

There will be free food and drinks, both soft and alcoholic, available for attendees throughout the whole event. There will also be great prizes on offer for the winning teams (Raspberry Pis and a Hotel Chocolat hamper).

We recommend teams of about 5-6 people, but smaller groups are welcome too, and if you’re unsure who to come with then we’ll be happy to match you up with other keen problem solvers on the day.

The Oxbridge Women in Computer Science Conference is an annual conference that brings together junior and senior computer scientists to encourage collaboration through formal and informal discussion and provides a perfect opportunity for young researchers to present their research and get valuable feedback in an open, friendly and informal environment.

The conference is free to attend for computer scientists at all UK universities and this year will be held on 9th March 2019, at University of Oxford. It will include talks by key speakers from industry and academia who will share their experiences with the participants.

Presentations will be 10 minutes long, followed by 3 minutes questions and discussion. Posters can be up to size A1. Each presentation and poster abstract will be reviewed by members of the Scientific Committee. Rejected presentations will still be offered a poster slot. There are no proceedings for the conference, and hence presentations and posters can be under submission for other conferences or workshops. The deadline for submission is 15th February 2019.
