I tracked the cause down to the implementation of a channel in the API we used; but I couldn't spot the bug itself by staring at the code. This talk will describe how I used model checking to find the bug: I modelled the channel implementation using the process algebra CSP, and then used the model checker FDR to find the cause of the deadlock. There was a straightforward fix to the bug, which I then verified using CSP and FDR. The talk should be accessible to people with no knowledge of concurrent programming or CSP.
